IMS/Dry Needling
What is it?
Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), also known as dry needling, is a treatment that involves inserting thin needles into the body and is often used to reduce pain and muscle tension. Unlike acupuncture, which is based on traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling is based on Western medicine and is primarily used to treat musculoskeletal conditions.
How does it work?
IMS works by releasing trigger points, which are like tight bands within a muscle. By inserting a needle into these parts of the muscle, IMS can promote healing by triggering the body’s inflammatory response and increasing blood flow to the area, effectively reducing pain and tightness.
Who is it for?
IMS works particularly well for sports injuries and in areas of chronic tightness that haven’t responded to other forms of treatment.
