Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an effective treatment option for pain relief and tissue healing!

Bringing Harmony & Balance

Acupuncture is an effective treatment technique that originates from ancient Chinese medicine. It is based on the theory that illness is a result of imbalances in the body’s energy.

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture works to restore energy balance within the body allowing natural healing to occur.

Western Acupuncture, used by most physiotherapists, stimulates specific points in the body to decrease pain by releasing the body’s own natural painkillers.

Acupuncture treatments involve the insertion of very fine needles into these specific body points. The number and location of points will be determined by your physiotherapist after a comprehensive assessment.

There is generally minimal to no discomfort experienced with acupuncture. You may experience a sharp pricking sensation followed by a sensation of warmth. These are temporary sensations and should be associated with only mild discomfort.

Acupuncture is a very safe treatment. All needles are single use and pre- sterilized. All

Physiotherapists practicing acupuncture must be certified with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute.

Does Acupuncture hurt?
The sensation of an acupuncture needle varies. The needles are hair thin, and you may feel a slight pinch as it is inserted, but generally it is painless. Once inserted, you may begin to feel sensations of warmth, heaviness, cramping, tingling, or electric sensations around the needle or traveling along the meridian pathways. When you experience these sensations, you are feeling the movement of your Qi.
Conditions that are commonly treated using acupuncture include:
  • back and neck pain
  • sciatica
  • headaches
  • muscle and joint pain
  • whiplash injuries
  • arthritis
  • fibromyalgia
