Movement & Posture Retraining

Look better, move better, feel better.

It is never too late to improve your posture!

Sitting is the new smoking!  After sleep, we sit and eat breakfast, commute to work in a seated position, sit all day at a desk – only to drive home to sit and eat and perhaps watch television. Exercise activities are too brief, and usually fail to strengthen and stabilise all our core muscles adequately.

Improving your strength is important for more than just looking good and maintaining a healthy weight. Strengthening the appropriate muscles in your body can help to improve your posture and your overall spinal health, giving your tight, overworked muscles a chance to relax and let go so that you can enjoy greater movement.

To stabilise the torso and spine, the transverse abdominis, internal and external obliques and deep stabilisers of the spine, are activated. The gluteus medius, gluteus maximus, quads, adductors and hamstrings are all activated to help stabilise and support the trunk. Additionally, muscles of the shoulder girdle are recruited to stabilise the shoulder area.

It is never too late to improve your posture, and for most of us we will only make the decision to improve our posture because of pain or tension in our bodies. Studies reveal that even people in their 80s and 90s can improve their posture, giving them more mobility, and improving the strain they feel from bad posture habits.
