Poco Grand Prix 2018
This was the third annual Poco Grand Prix, a part of BC Superweek, and 2018 saw Canada’s first pro cycling races go at night under the lights!
The Poco Grand Prix is a criterium bicycle race where racers do laps around a 1.3 km circuit in downtown Port Coquitlam.
Close to 10,000 people gathered to watch racers of all levels, from children and youth to pro men and women. They also enjoyed a street festival including free live entertainment, children’s activities, the Biz Expo tradeshow, food vendors, and the beverage garden. New this year was the Men’s Pro race starting after dark, with the lights and shadows providing more drama to the exciting race.
Port Coquitlam Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic is the Medical Team sponsor for the Poco Grand Prix.
We coordinated a dynamic team of physicians, physiotherapists, nurses, paramedics, first responders and kinesiologists to provide medical care
both on course and in the Base Medical tent. Luckily there were no major injuries this year, but we were kept busy with injuries from the Children’s, Youth, Corporate
and Pro mens’ and ladies’ races.
We also entered a team into the Corporate Race portion of the Poco Grand Prix. Congratulations Cathy, Jack, Brenden and Ivory on your stellar performance!
Thank you to all of our volunteers and to Dr. Jack Taunton and Andrea Nicholson for their leadership and expertise at the event.
